1 I love bookstores, Mexican food, Diet Coke and potato chips. Not dogs, cats, coffee or refried beans!
2 I have wanted to be an itinerant t-shirt designers since a trip with my cousin to The Netherlands around 1990 where I met a guy who spent spring to fall there and winters in the Caribbean. My cousin is still shaking her head.
3 My friends call me an information sponge and I love to talk to strangers.
4 I love to photograph wildflowers, beaches and rocks. And my nieces!
5 Anything and everything is fair game for one of my blogs. Be nice to me - I save emails and photos for future blackmail purposes!
How and when did you find zazzle?
It will be 2 years on April 15th! I was staying at the beach in Florida - where I knew no one - so I must have heard about Zazzle from a magazine or blog. I love the way I can make my products customizable for people to add their own photographs or words, so it definitely fits how I work! (editor's note happy anniversary today!)
Do you have any formal art or computer training? I'm pretty self-trained as a photographer and designer through reading books and watching videos and podcasts although I was lucky enough to go to the Santa Fe Workshops for a weeklong photography class. That was a lot of learning and camaraderie! I work a lot in Photoshop and Lightroom, so I've gone to Photoshop World in Las Vegas for more training and highly recommend events like that. I learned so much from so many different teachers. Plus, it was so close to beautiful scenery, I got out and shot thousands of photos.
If you could give every new shopkeeper 1 piece of advice what would you tell
them? Become a regular on the forums! And my p.s. would be - make sure your designs FIT the products!
If you had to pick a birthday card for someone, from any shop that is NOT
yours, which would you pick and why? This is so hard! If I were going smart-ass, I'd be in SagArt's shop. Today, I decided to go for my other loves, which are paintings and illustrations. There are so many talented designers on Zazzle, it's hard to choose. I could really dig this fun and cute design of Shannon's on HahpiStuff: It makes me smile and I think that's what birthday are about - spreading happiness like frosting!
If you were watching the news and the man on the street interview was
wearing your shirt what would you do? I'd laugh with delight! Then, I'd take an evidence photo for my blog with my iPhone. I'd also go up and ask them how they got it and let them know I was the designer and I was tickled to see them wearing it. And before I tweeted and post about it, I'd have to call my Mom!
