Trees are one of my favorites things to draw. This was my first digital pencil drawing. I just love the enigma and intertwining of all the branches. It looks like chaos but it is well orchestrated by nature, there is a song in it.

My store name came from my graphic design firm name under which I have been doing freelance for over 15 years. It came to me while walking down Sixth Avenue in NYC on a lunch break. The literal translation of my maiden name (Sternbach) from its German origins, and Star Stream came to be.

Kristi's Gift Shop

Kristi's Gift Shop
How did you pick your store(s) name(s)?
(feel free to write up each shop name if they each have a story) *

With my original store, "Kristi's Gift Shop" it was so easy to choose a name. My name is Kristi and I began it with the idea of having customizable gifts available for purchase. After all, it was just before the Christmas shopping season when I first signed up at Zazzle.

For my 2nd store, "Moments by KGS", I decided to do a spin-off of my original store's name but since this 2nd store is for baby announcements, invitations, and business cards (basically paper products), I needed a name that reflected what the store would be selling. I decided on "Moments" since the main theme of the store would be products you use to celebrate "moments" in life. So, Moments by KGS was born.

My 3rd store is another theme store. I enjoy doing artwork - and as artwork can be very subjective - it just didn't fit into my main gift shop's offerings. I came up with the name, "The Abstract World of Lyranny Hawk" because Lyranny Hawk is a pseudonym I have chosen for my artistic expressions. A large portion of my artwork is abstract or at least flirts with the abstract side and so the name just fits.

What are your 5 favorite designs from your store(s) and why?
(include the url to the product pages)

My first favorite product is this "Favorites Recipes Binder". It is on my list of favorites because it is the first thing that I ever sold and I was so excited to see it sell many many times over during the Christmas shopping season! It inspired me to keep designing.

2nd on my list of favorites is this pair of Pro-Keds with funky stars and stripes. It was one of the first Pro-Keds designs that I did and I was so happy with them that I bought a pair for my daughter. I think they show off my unique shoe style. Keds does an amazing job on the shoes and I have been so happy with the purchase.

The 3rd product on my list of favorites is this embroidered "Proud Nurse" cap. I enjoy making embroidered designs and I was extremely pleased with the way that this one came out.

My 4th favorite design is one of my favorites because it incorporates a patriotic design into a "Summer Recipes Binder". I am very patriotic by nature so it was a lot of fun working on this design.

And finally, last on my list of favorite designs is this "Neon Party" invitation. It has been a great seller for me and I just love the way it really looks like neon against the black background.

Do you have shops on other PODs?
Yes - but zazzle is my primary POD

I have never been able to get a job using what I consider my strengths like creativity and humor so I like knowing that people are willing to buy designs I have created. It makes me feel vindicated. I also like making stuff that I think is funny and I would buy, instead of something that's demeaning to women or more gross than funny.

Difficult question. When you look at the nex question and find 60+ hours as my answer you may find it hard to believe that I got a life. I enjoy creating new designs and promoting other designers products. At Zazzle I got the tools I need to do this.

First, I’ll state the obvious. Everyone is creative. There is not a person on Earth that is incapable of coming up with a new idea. The question for me, however, was how to embrace that concept in my life. So, in 2005 I decided to distract myself from reality, move 3000 miles across the country and immerse myself in a sleepy little island community off the coast of Washington State called Friday Harbor. Little did I know that my housewarming gift would be inspired creativity. My intent was a change in lifestyle but in reality I expanded my perspective and found the passion for creativity which now had its rightful outlet.

Zazzle is that outlet. I joined the community in 2006, never expecting to find a world of innovative artists and a spirit of entrepreneurship which would become “empowering” to me. I embraced the feedback and welcomed the interactions, muddling my way through the process as my inner artist was unleashed.

Meeting so many celebrated artists and infusing yourself with far greater than “recommended daily allowances” of creativity in a positive and nurturing atmosphere is one of the reasons why I have continued as a loyal designer at Zazzle. Over the years, I have opened galleries as outlets---looking for ways to market concepts as opposed to content, each gallery holding a spot near and dear to my heart.

I have been very fortunate since 2006 in large part due to Zazzle’s innovation and appreciation for their artists. The island and photography community have embraced my designs and work which they see on Zazzle and now around town --- bringing many other collaborative island artists to Zazzle as well. In September, my “day job” was outsourced and I have never been happier- the timing is perfect for this new paradigm in personal growth to continue. Opportunities happen and I’ve learned from the past three years and counting, I will take them as then come.

I love designing business cards. There are so many variations of the theme which makes me really want to be able to figure out how customers want to promote themselves. Since the business card makes that impression about your creativity and style, I try and focus on a message in lieu of other products which simply are used on a one time basis.

Too Cool 4 School was one of the first designs I ever did and one of the first ones I put here on Zazzle. I enjoyed doing the design because it is a little different than most stuff I do. I guess I like this one the best because it has been around for awhile,it was one of my first, it was inspired by someone special, it sells well and it even got a TBA. The design also matches the model very well.

It has given me the opportunity to have my own business, be creative, and earn money for the various animal charities I support along with the Susan Koman Breast Cancer Foundation. When I retired in 2009, I was concerned how I would keep myself busy after working for a large corporation, in upper management, for 45 years. When I discovered Zazzle, I was thrilled and immediately saw the numerous options it offered. When I look back on my original products, I realize how much I have learned and how much I still have to learn. Designing products for Zazzle has made me learn Photoshop, improved my photography skills, gotten me involved in social networks and was the reason I learned how to do my own website. Just think I have learned so much and I get paid to do it. Becoming a Proseller was as much of a thrill as the promotions I received in the work force. On a closing note, I have also gained Zazzle friends who have encouraged me from the very b eginning. What really makes every day dazzle with Zazzle for me is I can spend hours working on my products with my three best friends in my office. They are my Goldens and inspiration, Anna, Diva and Eddie.
