What is the most important thing you have learned since starting on zazzle? *
Persistance! Do not give up. Keep creating images to place on products and eventually buyers will find them.
Do you consider yourself an Artist selling art, or a Business person selling products which happen to be art? *
Both - every product contains art, even if it is not in my taste I will offer it for sale, since that is what the customers want
What do you enjoy most about zazzle? *
This may sound strange, but it gives me something to do. I retired 2 years ago and am disabled. I was going bonkers not working. With Zazzle I can sit and work all day long producing images and trying them out on different products.

What is your favorite thing to do when not Zazzling? *
Travel is my first choice. Exploring places I have never been and revisiting places I found interesting. This year and next my goal is to visit places that start with the letter M. So far Mongolia has been the highlight! The next place on my docket...Minnesota!

What is the most important thing you have learned since starting on zazzle? *
It takes a lot of time. That is not a bad thing, especially if you love what you do.

It teaches just how hard it is to actually be a 'true commercial artist'. The extremely good ones were born with 'it'. A rare thing.
Do you consider yourself an Artist selling art, or a Business person selling products which happen to be art? *
Artist - every product is a perfect piece of art i have carefully selected and set to match how I feel they should be displayed
What do you enjoy most about zazzle? *
Freedom. Never dictated on what you love to do. If you are enjoying success with your freedom through art - nothing could be better as an artist.

How has zazzle changed your life? *
Zazzle is awesome. It's paid our mortgage and put food on the table when our main business got choked by this lovely recession. I adore Zazzle. They are an incredible company who really gets it....they understand that without incentives, there's no reason to work hard. Their responsiveness whenever I've needed help has been unprecedented. They are a study in good business practices. "I love Zazzle" is a phrase my husband and I say quite often.

Be creative. Different. Fearless. Don't be afraid to take risks, don't be afraid to go where other Zazzlers never tread. Look at your ideas and your work and see how they hold up to the competition. Check your competitors' pricing and see if you're in the ballpark. Most of all, have fun. It will show in your work.

I am a professional licensed artist; I receive royalties from manufacturers who "rent" my art for their home decor, gift and art products. I also, with my husband, run a fine art custom tile and art gift company.

I learned that you must make yourself known to get noticed (promote yourself), which is kind of hard for me. Sometimes i even complete questionnaires ;-)

Artist - every product is a perfect piece of art i have carefully selected and set to match how I feel they should be displayed

The previews sometimes make me feel like I really made an object. And I like the supporting atmosphere - so many zazzlers are happy to help!

How has zazzle changed your life? *
Wow. Well, it's enabled me to showcase some most of my artwork and sell it on a number of products. It's also been an outlet for my sometime nutty sense of humor. Whenever I get an idea for a shirt or board or even a pair of sneakers, all I need to do is go to my store and design. More often than not it's a good design and people buy it. So not only has Zazzle been a cool source of extra income for me, it's a way to scratch my creative itches.

Make sure you have a clear picture of what you want your store to be. If you want to have a theme for your store be sure you stick to it in all your products. Keep your designs clean (with a good resolution) to ensure the best end product. And most of all, have fun with what you're doing, otherwise what's the point?

How has zazzle changed your life? *

It's given me a sense of purpose. Instead of taking photos and shutting them away in a cupboard for years, I can make something with them that others will enjoy or find useful. The natural world around me is a constant source of wonder, now I can share that with everyone.
It's given me a lot less time to do other things, luckily, photography is a hobby as well. It's also given me the chance to use the knowledge I've acquired in my working life (as I'm semi-retired now) and a new chance to experiment with graphics software. I love learning new things and dabbling in things I haven't tried before. Zazzle fits me perfectly!

Create what you are interested in and knowledgeable about - hobbies, interests, life experiences - and then diversify.
Try to learn a little bit about graphics, layout & printing - it will help you no end.
Don't be afraid to ask on the forum, there is an immense amount of knowledge there. Definitely read through the existing posts, you'll probably find something you never even thought of asking! I read the forum posts from top to bottom when I first started.
Be prepared for hard work, don't expect results quickly and don't be discouraged if you don't!

It's quite difficult to separate life from Zazzle, if I'm gardening, out and about, travelling, I'm always seeing something to take photos of. I even take my camera when I go shopping, just in case. I used to ride horses & motorbikes, play the guitar, and draw & paint, but there just aren't enough hours in the day! We still have animals though, so any spare time is looking after the land, catching escaped goats etc.

Both. I'd like to have just one store, but I wanted to keep main store as my own work (though I have started using filters and other software to diversify). My second store is based around vintage postcards, print, and old family photos. I like to think it keeps old photos alive.

How has zazzle changed your life? *

Zazzle gives me hope.

Sounds dramatic, but not really. I have back and neck injuries which mean I cannot hold a regular 9 to 5 job. I must rest periodically throughout the day. I have bone spurs, tendonitis and carpal tunnal and several other pain-in-the-you-know-where issues. No employer will have me. But other than that I am healthy. Too healthy to just sit around and vegetate.

Zazzle gives me a way to earn money. I did not have to spend a dime to get started. I must be self-employed, and I had no money to start a business. So, this got me started. And as long as there is a Zazzle out there, I have some hope for my future.

1) DO IT

2) DO IT NOW

That said, there are some things you need to learn about being successful. Soooooooooo, go to the forums and read as much as you can about everything. Especially learn about:

anything to do with images (making them, copyright, etc)
SEO (search engine optimization)
tagging (this has nothing to do with spray paint)

Now, using the info you learned about images, create about 200 designs in several catagories that keep whatever theme you have chosen for your shop. Then build a shop using the information you have about tagging and SEO.

Next, join Facebook, Twitter, Squidoo and get a blog. Learn how to use them to promote your shop(s).

Also, learn about ergonomics and making sure you know how to sit properly, etc. at a computer. You are going to spend a lot of time at a PC. Be careful it does not damage your health. So, and this is VERY important for people who use a PC a lot, EXERCISE DAILY. Stretch! Strengthen! And you will be healthy enough to work hard, enjoy yourself and rake in some cash.

And on the 7th day, rest.

Now start the process all over again, adding designs every day, if you can. The 200 you made was just for starters. you won't see any real money until you have about 1000. But do NOT wait until you have 1000.

What do you do when you are not zazzling? *

I am limited in my activities because of previously mentioned health issues. I USED to enjoy cooking, embroidery, sewing, reading and going to the movies.

Reading is difficult because I holding a book for too long hurts. Sewing and embroidery are pretty much a memory. I can still cook a little, but the days of making gourmet meals for six are long gone.

I still watch movies. Mostly at home because I can't walk around a movie theater while the movie is playing, know what I mean?

Anyway, it is always difficult for me to answer a question like this because there was the "before" me and now there is the "after" me. The "before" me could do a lot more stuff than the "after" me. And the "after" me seems kind of boring compared to the "before" me.

Which do you prefer and why? 1 Mega Store or Several Niche Stores *
I have several niche stores, so I guess that is my preference.

I am both a politcal and a religious person. And I am a Democrat. Our founding fathers separated church and state for a reason. And I separate my shops. I can't keep up with the email if I do not.

I also have a shop for designs I have created using flags of different countries. There are hundreds of countries in this world. The shop becomes too large and cumbersome if I add designs from other themes.

Zazzle has not only given me an outlet to showcase my art, but a means to supplement my family's income and still stay home with my five children.
I love that I can tell people I am a commercial artist and graphic designer. I am doing what I've always wanted. I am my own boss and Zazzle gives me the freedom to set my own hours.
It's a great feeling when my friends and family tell me how proud they are of me and how far I've brought my business and my art since opening my first store in 2008.
I wouldn't trade my time on Zazzle for the world.
